Riding as an Observer
McGregor Memorial EMS (formerly Durham Ambulance Corps) offers a program which allows the public to observe on ambulance calls, called the Fourth Rider Program. This program allows interested people to learn about Emergency Medical Services, learn about McGregor and its members, and allows current EMTs to decide if they wish to apply for membership. Applications for riding as a fourth rider can be picked up at our station, located at 47 College Rd on the campus of the University of New Hampshire (click here for directions), or can be downloaded from the link below. If you are interested in joining McGregor as an EMT, the application form can be found here.
Fourth Riders are allowed to ride on all calls at the discretion of the Crew Chief. At the discretion of the Crew Chief, fourths may perform basic tasks. More information can be found with the application below. For complete information, a list of rules, and finding about how to ride, please call our station Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 7:00pm.
We encourage all who are interested to come down and ride as a Fourth Rider. To start the process, download the Fourth Waiver, print it out, read the information, and complete the waiver. You can then drop this form off at our station and schedule a short (about 1 hour) orientation. After completing the orientation, you can begin riding as an observer, scheduled at your convenience.
