Hilltop Elementary School Becomes a CPR Safe School
Durham, NH - September 11, 2007 - Hilltop Elementary School, part of the Somersworth School District, is now a CPR SafeTM School. Working closely with Memorial McGregor EMS, a non-profit EMS agency, the Hilltop staff spent the morning of September 5th learning how to save a life. Through hands on training with life-like manikins and practice AED's, McGregor instructors led Hilltop staff members through the compressions and rescue breaths of CPR, as well as the lifesaving application of an Automated External Defibrillator.
Hilltop Elementary School's dedication to New Hampshire's school children has earned it the CPR SafeTM certification. This certification recognizes a school's commitment to child health and safety and, ultimately, makes the school and the community a safer place for all. McGregor designed this program as a school-friendly project in order to assist schools in training and certifying teachers and staff in American Heart Association CPR and AED use. In working with the New Hampshire Department of Education, McGregor hopes to promote CPR training and preparedness in all New Hampshire schools.
What Makes a CPR SafeTM School?
- The school has made child health and safety a priority through staff professional development, day to day operations, student wellness education, and CPR certifications.
- At least 75% of the school staff is certified in Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and has been trained in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- The school is equipped with an AED which is easily accessible to all.
Hilltop Elementary School has exceeded these requirements and is a leading example of the dedication and caring of New Hampshire's school teachers. The staff at Hilltop continues to go above and beyond for their children.
