Town of Durham

The Town of Durham is administered by the Durham Town Council and a Town Manager. It has a population of approximately 12,000, has full-time police, fire, and public works departments. Durham is home to the Great Bay, the Oyster River, and the University of New Hampshire.

Durham Fire Department

The Durham Fire Department acts as a first responder service for all emergency medical-aid calls in the communities of Durham and the University of New Hampshire. All firefighters are EMT-Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic certified.

University of New Hampshire

The University of New Hampshire is a land grant university. The University has more than 12,000 undergraduates, 2,000 graduate students, and over 200 buildings. The separate colleges of the University are: Liberal Arts, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Life Science and Agriculture, Whittemore School of Business and Economics, Health and Human Services, and the Thompson School of Applied Sciences.

Town of Madbury

Town of Madbury

The Town of Madbury is the smallest community in our response area with a population of around 1,500. The town has a volunteer fire dept, Board of Selectman, and part-time police department. Madbury is home to the UNH Kingman Farm and the former Governor of NH, Jeanne Shaheen.

Madbury Volunteer Fire Department

The Madbury Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1947 by a group of residents concerned about fire protection in the town of Madbury. One of those people, Carl Wentworth, is still actively involved with the fire department today more than 50 years later. MFD is made up of approximately 25 members, operating 2 engines, 1 tanker, 2 forestry units, and a utility truck. They average about 100 to 150 calls for service annually. In 1979 the Madbury FAST Squad (First Aid Stabilization Team) was formed to provide emergency medical care to community members prior to the arrival of the ambulance.

Town of Lee

The Town of Lee is a residential community with several farms. A full-time police department, volunteer fire department, and a Board of Selectman help the 4,000 residents of the town.

Lee Fire Department

The Lee Fire Department was formed in 1950 and is comprised of about 30 volunteers. LFD's members have one or more of the following qualifications: Firefighter, EMT-Basic, Intermediate, and Paramedic. Lee Fire Department personnel respond not only to fire-calls in the town of Lee, but also perform as first-responders for EMS calls in the town of Lee.
